Storage shed sale today It's going to be FUN!

And I'm finally cleaning out my closet

Good morning everyone! It is a bright and beautiful morning here today at Myrtle Beach! Today we are going to open up our storage shed and see who might stop by and be interested in some of our treasures. We had to rent a space because we didn't have any room let in our garage for everything we were buying. It started to take over our house and we had piles of things on every surface imaginable.
It’s not like we didn’t have organized madness….lol... we had piles coming in, piles that needed pictures, piles to list, and then piles to mail. We just had too many piles!!

It's going to fun today and I can't wait to see how everything turns out!

I am finally going through my closet, mini shopping mall....lol....to bring a bunch of my NWT, never will
ware, wore once, maybe I will fit into this again, this will be back in style someday, clothes, shoes and jewelry!!  Wow, I think I will be able to breath again when I enter and I actually see what I have to wear!!
By reading this I'm sure you have figured out that I have the shopping bug.

I'll let you know how we do!  I hope everyone has a wonderful week end and be safe!!

Bit of History Beating amazing odds
CINCO DE MAYO
"This battle was significant in that the 4,000 Mexican soldiers were greatly outnumbered by the well-equipped French army of 8,000 that had not been defeated for almost 50 years”

I need to do a little history check on CINCO DE MAYO because I know we Americans love to celebrate this day, I know I'm guilty too wishing everyone a Happy Cinco De Mayo, without knowing it's true history so, here is some of the history I found~

This is not Independance Day for Mexico(first mistake I had made, I thought it was),
but May 5,1862 the Mexican army had an victory over the French.  It didn't seem as though Mexico would win this Battle of Puebla ("This battle was significant in that the 4,000 Mexican soldiers were greatly outnumbered by the well-equipped French army of 8,000 that had not been defeated for almost 50 years) so when they did it was certianaly a reason to celebrate.

Puebla observes this day to commemorate the Mexican Army's victory!

Unfortunatly, One year later Thirty thousand French troops were able to defete the Mexican army, capture Mexico City, and  Emperor Maximilian I was the as ruler of Mexico.

However, the French victory was also short-lived, lasting only 3 years, from 1864 to 1867.

This was because the U.S.Civil War ended in 1865 so the U.S. was was able to provide more assistance to Mexico to expel the French, after which Maximilian I was executed by the Mexicans, along with his Mexican generals

Top 10 List EARTH DAY 2011, written by my 16 year old daughter We can all learn something from her!

TOP 10 LIST for EARTH DAY 2011.
Our daughter won a speech contest 3 years ago (age 13) the topic was, WATER SHEDS.  She did all of her own  research and was actually educating us on our water sheds and what each of us could do to save our planet.  She has also become a vegetarian and has been doing so for about 4 years now.  Again, she did her own research and made this decision!
This is her Top 10 List for us to follow and at 16 years old we can all learn something from her!

EARTH DAY 2011
 TOP 10 LIST
by meredith

1. NEVER throw cigarette butts out the window-they do not break down, they pollute water and hurts animals and plants
2. Do not litter paper products: Paper may be bio-degradable, but it often contains chemicals that are bad for ground water, and add stress to the Earth
3. Don't idle! As it gets warmer, waiting in the car with the AC cranked will seem almost inevitable. Don't do it. It will add exhaust of toxic gases to the air that could be avoided.
4. Do you business in the shower. Gross, right? But very earth friendly. If you (and family members) urinate while taking a shower, you can save nearly 100 gallons of water a day.
5. Do not use chemicals for planting. It pollutes ground water, streams and any near by bodies of water.
6. Don't let your animals defecate close to moving bodies of water. The bacteria in feces with harm animals in the water, and contaminate animals and plants who use the water.
7. Plant! one of the easiest ways to help the earth is just to plant. Vegetation provides oxygen that not only do we breathe, but can trap pollution.
8. Do laundry in large loads. The more laundry you do at a time actually saves more water and energy. So, avoid small loads or just washing one thing.
7. Recycle!! I don't understand why it is so hard for people to just keep a box in their kitchens for plastics, paper/cardboard products, and bottles.
8. Pick up trash. Yes, this may not be your garbage, and it would be much easier to just leave it. But, helping any can help the earth.
9. Cut apart used soda rings. The plastic rings that hold cans together can suffocate and kill small animals that get their heads caught. Simply cut the rings apart before recycling it, of Course
10. Walk more. The world is beautiful, but we often miss that through the blur of speeding away in a car.
Hop, skip, jump, run, dance, bike,
it doesn't matter what age you are because ~
Whatever you do, it helps not only the Earth, but you too!

-Love and Peace,
           Meredith

P.S.  Please ADOPT your pets!
 It's a WIN WIN situation!!
I am so proud of her! If we could all just do one or two of these a day we would be saving our planet for her and our future generations!

Fenton Glass Timeline ~ The History of Fenton Art Glass starting back in 1905

~Fenton Glass
 Great American Quality Glass Craftsmanship
For over 100 years~
Fenton Glass Timeline

1905
Frank L. Fenton and his brother John W. Fenton start the Fenton Art Glass Company in rented space in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
1906-07
Fenton Factory 1906The Fenton factory is built in Williamstown, West Virginia. The first piece made on January 2, 1907, is a crystal cream pitcher with a Water Lily and Cattails pattern. Jacob Rosenthal is the factory manager and glass chemist.

1907-08
Fenton introduces its innovative "iridescent ware," a popular-priced alternative to expensive products from Steuben or Tiffany. Other American glassmakers soon introduce competitive products, and this glassware dominates the marketplace for nearly a decade.
1924-26
A group of four skilled glassworkers from Europe create dramatic art glass treatments such as Hanging Hearts while employed at Fenton.
1929-30
In operation for about 25 years, Fenton Art Glass boasts that it now produces more than 25 different glass colors, ranging from traditional transparent hues to unusual opaque colors.
1936-37
As other glass plants perish during the Depression, Fenton maintains its business by producing bowls for companies making electric mixers and by producing special bottles for firms that make cologne and perfume.
1939
Fenton Hobnail PitcherBaskets, Cranberry glass, crested ware, and the Hobnail pattern all debut in the late 1930s.

1940-45
Unable to obtain glassware from overseas, many American importing companies turn to Fenton to have glassware made especially for their needs.
 1948-49
Fenton introduces its Diamond Lace pattern, designed by company president Frank L. Fenton.
 1952
Milk Glass Hobnail becomes Fenton's flagship pattern. Years later, Bill Fenton fondly recalls Hobnail as
 "our bread and butter" line.
BEAUTIFUL FENTON HOBNAIL BUD VASE 1960-69
Fenton introduces a range of popular transparent colors—
Colonial Amber, Colonial Blue, Colonial Green, and Colonial Pink.
  1969
Fenton and Cracker Barrel  begin a business relationship. Would recommend dropping this unless there's a notable/collectible product that came out of it.
1970
After years of trials and experiments, Fenton reintroduces Carnival glass. Items are marked with a distinctive logo, the word "Fenton" in script type within an oval.
 1980-1989
The first Connoisseur Collection is offered in 1983. Throughout the 1980s, Fenton's Milk Glass, Burmese and Rosalene colors continue to rise in popularity.
 1986
George W. Fenton becomes President, and he remains at the helm today. Bill Fenton is named Chairman of the Board, and Frank M. Fenton retires to the position of Historian.
 1988
Fenton appears on the QVC channel with Bill Fenton as the first on-air guest. Today, on-air guests include other family members.
1993
Fenton introduces the first items in its "Family Signature Series," starting a tradition that continues in today's product line.
 1994
Fenton's Showcase Dealer Program begins with 235 dealers. Today there are more than 1,000 Showcase Dealers nationwide.
1996
The premier issue of Glass Messenger, a quarterly newsletter for Fenton collectors, is published. A Roselle on Cranberry Basket is offered as the first Subscriber Exclusive.
2000
Fenton celebrates the company's 95th anniversary; Fenton has launched it's website.
2002
Fenton publishes its first book, Fenton Glass: Especially for QVC.
 2004
In anticipation of its centennial year, Fenton publishes a coffee table book, FENTON: Handcrafted American Glass Artistry.
 2005
Fenton turns 100 on May 4, 2005! Fenton Centennial Celebration in Williamstown July 31 – August 2.

                    A Day at the Auction

We got up early so we could go and check out an auction yesterday.  We had never been to this one before and wanted to see what kind of items were up for sale, what sold, people's interests ,,,etc.

Well, I registered, got my number and by the 3rd item up for bid I was waiving my number, won
and had been struck with auction fever!

You know you are buying too much when the auctioneer doesn't even need to see your number anymore to yell out the winning bidder's number!

I handed over the ticket to my husband and needed to go outside just so I wouldn't be tempted.
We actually did pretty well for my impulsivity.
We want to go again next Tuesday, but this time I will write down the numbers one the items I would like to bid on and STICK to it!

Easter Celebration 4/24/2011

Easter is running late this year!  Last year it was on April 4th but this year it is not until April 24th.
I was curious why it was so late this year so I did a little digging.

*"Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar.
It occurs during the spring, in March or April".

*The modern English term Easter developed from the Old English word Ä’astre or Ä’ostre , which itself developed prior to 899.
*According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Christians typically celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday. (Easter from Wikipedia)

Good morning everyone! I hope you have enjoyed your weekend so far. We found a bunch of tag/yard sales yesterday. It started off nice and sunny but the clouds rolled in and the breeze was cool. It didn't rain until later on in the evening. Rain is an understatement, it was a torrential downpour! The lightning was more like strobe lights at a club and the thunder was shaking the neighborhood. I was waiting for car alarms to start going off.
Anyway, back to our tag sale venture...
Not much luck in the way of "finds" yesterday. I should be more specific, not much in the way of Collectible finds yesterday.
I found all kinds of great things for the house! My poor husband waited patiently in the car doing a crossword puzzle while I was busy buying all kinds of things I didn't need.

Let's see, a small dog bed, I was hoping the cats would like it, a round wooden table with a beautiful handmade cover/skirt, an old folding card table chair, something neat I want to put in the garden for my flowers to grow up on it, not really sure what to call it, a couple of new pillows for the couch, a couple of brand new shirts, brand new shoes(always hard to find my size ~ 6), beautiful purple shiny wrapping paper, and my favorite find was an entire box FILLED with brand new cleaning supplies, and I mean filled,,,, for only $3.00!

My husband found a really neat globe, some old crystal wine glasses, a few other collectibles and also a sore back from waiting in the car for me!! I guess next week end I will be staying home!!

Oh, and the cats DO NOT like the bed, but they LOVE to lay on top of the new round table!

Good morning!

I'm sorry I haven't checked in for a few days.  I have one of my best friends visiting me!  We were able to hit the beach these past few days, but now it's cloudy and going to rain on and off all day today.  We have been running around and I actually brought her with us this past Saturday to the tag sales.  We found a few things but no too much.

Hope everyone is doing well!  Thanks for reading For the Love of Vintage!
