Bavarian Chocolate Cake Recipe ~ Let's Bake Something!

I haven't added a recipe in awhile and the picture of this cake looks so good, it's like I can almost smell the yummy chocolate.  So, here we go!

Bavarian Chocolate Cake


Preparation time: 20 mins.
Oven Temp: 350 degrees F
Baking Time: 1hr

For 1 cake, 8 Servings, you will need:


6 oz. semisweet chocolate, dark
4 oz. chocolate milk
2 Tbsp. water
1 cup butter, room temp
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs
1 Tbsp. orange juice
1 Tbsp. Grated orange peel
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 cups all - purpose flour
1/1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup butter milk or sour cream
Powdered sugar to dust


Preparation:

1.   In medium sauce pan melt together chocolate and water, stirring constantly.

2.   In large bowl cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

3.   Add eggs, one at a time. Blend in orange juice and orange peel.

4.   Stir in cooled chocolate

5.   Sift together flour, salt and baking soda

6.   Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk or sour cream to egg-butter mixture, blending well.

7.   Pour batter into a well-greased and floured tube pan, about 10 inches

8.   Bake at 350 degrees F for about 1 hour or until pick inserted in the center comes out clean

9.   Let cake cool in pan for 15 minutes.  Turn out onto rack and let cake cool completely. 

10. Dust with powdered sugar.

11. Serve with fresh fruit

Yum!  I really like the idea of serving this cake with some fresh fruit.
